Black Horse Motel
Black Horse Motel
Philadelphia-based Americana band Black Horse Motel conjures a sound that draws on traditional folk roots, along with many other influences, and ties it together with unifying vocal harmonies. Songs are built on the foundations of folk music, but are elevated by an infectious blend of the traditional banjo and mandolin, with guitars, strings, drums and voices. The resulting sound is dexterous, rich, accessible and toe-tapping.

In 2012, Black Horse Motel offered their first recording; a self-titled EP. They followed up with their debut full-length LP, Red Summer Spirit. The record released on March 1, 2013 to a sold-out crowd at Kung Fu Necktie in Philadelphia and is now available through most major online outlets.

2014 brought two new members to Black Horse Motel. Galen Fitzpatrick further reinforces the folk and singer/songwriter foundations of the group, while bringing an additional alt-country vibe to guitar and vocals. And Ryann Lynch heightens the foot-stomping with backcountry and Celtic-sprinkled fiddle and has added an additional vocal, bringing the total to 5 singers in the band. Together with existing members David Richardson, Megan Manning, Desireé Haney, the group continues to hone their sound, expand their fanbase, and write new songs for an upcoming recording.

This summer, Black Horse Motel performed at the 2014 Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA and the famed Philadelphia Folk Festival. The group has also performed at many of Philadelphia’s popular venues, including World Cafe Live, Kung Fu Necktie, Tin Angel, Milkboy Coffee, Boot & Saddle, and Underground Arts. Black Horse Motel has been featured as live performers on several radio programs, including Gene Shay’s Folk Show on WXPN, Folkadelphia on XPN2, and Y-Not Radio. Songs from their recorded works have also been featured on the previously listed stations and Delaware’s WSTW Hometown Heroes show.

Emily Arin
Emily Arin
With a plaintive, delicate voice, Montour Falls, New York's, Emily Arin weaves tales concerned with the heavy graces of being human. Working with noted producers, Brian McTear (Matt Pond PA, Sharon Van Etten) and Greg Weeks (Espers), Arin has crafted songs with a wide-ranging mix of influences, from Hank Williams and Memphis Minnie to Nick Drake, Caetano Veloso, Tom Waits, Sybille Baier and Gillian Welch on her debut studio album, Patch of Land, available January, 2011.

In her lyrics, Arin explores experiences where shadows and light converge and transformation is offered as a possibility. Whether autobiographical songs of love and longing, or third person waltzes and ballads (as in Patch of Land's 'Sweetly Breathe'), Arin's inventiveness with language and melody hold court.
