The Silence Kit is a Philly post-punk band that plays textured, dark, indie rock. Based in New Jersey and Philadelphia, and inspired in equal parts by post punk, shoegaze, neo-psychedelia, avant-garde and indie rock, the band was started by singer/guitarist Patrick McCay back in 2002 as a solo recording project, eventually culminating in the first album "In Regulated Measure" (2006). "A Strange Labor" was released in Spring of 2008, and "Dislocations" in 2010, both by Break Even Records and Azteca Records and both received positive reviews from a great variety of press, with the Philadelphia City Paper calling "Dislocations" The Silence Kit's "boldest, most cohesive statement so far."
Several lineups have seen the band gradually honing their sound through the years. The present lineup of McCay, bass player Don Ocava, and drummer Jay Dyer have been playing together since 2007. James Cuartero joined on keys in 2009, and guitarist Christopher Gill joined in 2010.
Comparisons to bands like The Cure, Joy Division, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and The Psychedelic Furs hint at The Silence Kit's melodic, moody sound. The Silence Kit has played Philly, NYC and NJ venues such as The Khyber, The Northstar, Doc Watson's, The Pontiac Grille, The Manhattan Room (M-Room), The Blockley Pourhouse, Arlene's Grocery, The North Six, The Loft, Auction House and more, where they've shared the stage with indie rock and post punk bands like Mark Burgess (of The Chameleons), Early Day Miners, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, Windsor for the Derby, Pela, and even major label bands Gene Loves Jezebel and Kill Hannah.
The band decided to make their next release available for free online, with CDs for sale online and at shows. At first, it was planned to be a CD single for "The Magician" but it gradually became an EP, and once it was nearing completion the band decided to record a second EP. The EPs will be available online at the end of March and the CD Release Show is booked for April 1st, 2011.

Lady

Unpredictable and complex, the debut EP from Philadelphia band, Lady, forces the listener to abandon all definition and simply listen. The sooner you abandon the urge to define and classify the music, the sooner you will reside in the imagination of Lady and their enigmatic lead, the mysterious and divine 21 year old chanteuse Kate Foust.
Lady formed in 2009, when Kate chose to start the band that she had always wanted to play in. Enter friend and co-conspirator 21 year old, Liz Zook on violin and the layers of complexity began. Bassist Jim Scanlan, Guitarist Zach Poyatt, and drummer Ben Smith rounded out the ensemble and Lady began recording their first EP by December of 2009. Four tracks that confound and delight, leaving you with one clear thought - I want more. The players are all Philadelphia based students of classical and jazz music, and are each heavily embedded in the rich Philly scene having collaborated with artists such as folk outfit The Divine Lorraine, hip hop stylists Sela, the genius Virtual Virgin, Toy Soldiers, and many others.
