Ja-Tun and Random Acts of Soul
Ja-Tun and Random Acts of Soul
Ja-Tun is a young upcoming singer, songwriter, actress and spoken word artist originating from Central New Jersey. Her vocal training began at the age of four when she began studying classical singing in school. She continued training with school choirs all the way through her graduation from Smith College in December of 2005. Ja-Tun made her acting debut at the age of 8 years old in "Motherline Looping" at the Millhill Playhouse in Trenton, NJ. Two years later, Ja-Tun began lessons in voice, clarinet and piano. Although the lessons were quickly discontinued, she continued playing clarinet for years and it remains her favorite instrument. In high school, Ja-Tun explored other areas of her voice by singing in her school's gospel choir under the direction of Pastor Michael D. Fisher.

Within the past year, Ja-Tun has been seen in such DC venues as Busboys and Poets Cafe and Restaurant and Sankofa Bookstore performing her poetry. Ja-Tun recently joined the performing arts chorale (PAC) under the direction of Miche braden. She has also become a regular on the "Subway Series", a collection of writers, rappers, singers and dancers who collect for a hip hop party on the New York City subway. This venue has lead to:

- coverage on National Public Radio (NPR) as the "Story of the Day"
- inclusion in a two page photo spread for the village voice
- radio interview on WFMU's "Put the Needle on the Record" with Billy Jam
- featured on Fuji TV
- featured on German TV
- featured in Japanese Press
- mention on Japanese Radio

Currently, Ja-Tun is writing and recording her debut album and seeking producers to help her achieve her vision. She wants this album to speak to her own life experiences and hopes that in so doing, it will reach others as well.
